Netflix is looking to add yet another fantasy series to the streaming service as Deadline reports they’ll be bringing the world of Leigh Bardugo’s Grishaverse to the small screen. As Hollywood screenwriter Eric Heisserer will be writing/producing/showrunning the series titled Shadow and Bone with Stranger Things’ Shawn Levy also producing.
Eric is best known for his work on the Oscar-nominated science fiction drama Arrival from director Denis Villeneuve along with the first films in Sony’s Valiant Comics universe with Vin Diesel’s Bloodshot and the upcoming Harbinger. He was also behind Netflix’s Bird Box starring Sandra Bullock, Light’s Out, and The Thing prequel.
The series will reportedly combine the books Shadow and Bone/Six of Crows.
Shadow and Bone brings together the stories and characters of both Shadow and Bone and Six of Crows, two overlapping series that take place in Bardugo’s Grishaverse. In a world cleaved in two by a massive barrier of perpetual darkness, where unnatural creatures feast on human flesh, a young soldier uncovers a power that might finally unite her country. But as she struggles to hone her power, dangerous forces plot against her. Thugs, thieves, assassins and saints are at war now, and it will take more than magic to survive.
Netflix is also currently shooting an adaptation of the Polish fantasy novels and video games) The Witcher with Superman actor Henry Cavill playing the lead role of Geralt of Rivia and is likely coming at the end of the year or early 2020.
It’s currently unknown when they’ll want Shadow and Bone to begin shooting.
