Netflix is continuing their comic book adaptations with or without Marvel characters, and one of those projects is a movie starring Mads Mikkelsen (Casino Royale, Hannibal) based on Dark Horse Comics’ (Hellboy, Sin City) graphic novel Polar.
The world’s top assassin, Duncan Vizla, aka The Black Kaiser (Mads Mikkelsen), is settling into retirement when his former employer marks him as a liability to the firm. Against his will, he finds himself back in the game going head to head with an army of younger, faster, ruthless killers who will stop at nothing to have him silenced.
Netflix has released the first trailer for the action film and it looks like a little bit of John Wick mixed with their own The Punisher. It’ll be interesting to see if this ends up an entertaining ride as I’m sure the streaming service could use an action film franchise.
My first impression is that some shots look better than others but ultimately the quality is hard to gauge. I’m hoping it doesn’t take itself too seriously as the trailer suggests.
Check out the trailer below.
It was shot by Spun director Jonas Akerlund from a script penned by Jayson Rothwell. The rest of the cast includes actress Katheryn Winnick (Vikings), Vanessa Hudgens (Sucker Punch), Johnny Knoxville (Jackass), and Matt Lucas (Alice In Wonderland).
Netflix has set the release date for Polar on January 25th, 2019.
