With Sony Pictures’ Masters of The Universe feature film reboot on the horizon, production expected to begin early next year.

It looks like we’ll be getting a new anime series titled Masters of The Universe: Revelation from Netflix and director Kevin Smith, as the streaming service announced this today on Twitter.

The war for Eternia begins again! Superstar director Kevin Smith continues the original series’ story right where it left off in Masters of the Universe: Revelation, a new series telling the epic tale of what may be He-Man and Skeletor’s final battle.

Kevin Smith is best known for his feature film and television work but is also working with Marvel Television and Hulu on a mature Howard The Duck animated series.

It’ll be interesting to see if this lands more in the realm of their recent She-Ra reboot or will be a bit more mature than that. However, it is said it will be a continuation of the original series.

I’m sure we’ll get further details on the project in the coming months.

The Mattel toy line was given an animated series in the 1980s that spawned a failed live-action Masters of The Universe movie in 1987 starring Dolph Lundgren that notoriously helped shutter it’s studio Cannon Films.

There have been various cartoon and comic book relaunches over the years with a new feature film reboot that has jumped from Warner Bros. to Sony Pictures during its development stages.
