Neill Blomkamp’s ‘Greenland’ To Shoot Scenes In Northern Canada

Neill Blomkamp is one of our favorite modern science fiction directors and while we’re excited to see how his RoboCop sequel RoboCop turns out, he has another movie shooting first titled Greenland. It will star Chris Evans as Jeff, a family man that has to take his family to the safest spot on the planet, Greenland.

I previously confirmed that production will be taking place in Toronto. Blomkamp and his team are currently scouting there.

We have now learned from our local sources they are planning to shoot a chunk of Greenland in the city of North Bay. A city about four hours north of Toronto and likely would have the snow needed for the production.

While Canada can certainly be chilly in the winter months, over the last couple of years it’s been increasingly mild during the winter months in the Toronto/Southern Ontario area, making snowy scenes harder to film as the snow on the ground is hard to predict. However, the further north you travel the more you are likely to find a large amount of snow, to say, double for Greenland. We suspect North Bay will be used for exterior shots and is expected to take place sometime in February-March.

Filming on Greenland will kick-off on January 21st and will wrap mid-March.

STX Entertainment has yet to give Greenland an official release date.
