Variety reports that Gone Girl’s Neil Patrick Harris has taken an unknown role in Lana Wachowski’s Matrix 4 starring Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss.
Neil Patrick Harris is the latest addition to the ensemble cast for the upcoming fourth installment of the “Matrix” franchise.
Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Candyman, Aquaman) had also recently joined the film.
Details about the film are scarce but Lana Wachowski co-wrote/co-directed the trilogy that consisted of The Matrix, The Matrix: Reloaded, and The Matrix: Revolutions.
The Matrix is a constructed virtual world that is built to keep humans in a metal prison as their bodies power a futuristic world ruled by artificial intelligence. Some humans are able to free themselves and others building their own resistance and society in Zion with the rest of the world ruined after a massive ongoing war between humans and machines. During the war, humans blacked-out the sky (the machines’ power source) leading to them using human body heat as their new source of power.
Neo is said to be one of many chosen humans to become “The One”.
Filming is said to begin shooting in Chicago sometime during February, the original three movies shot in Australia.
Warner Bros. has yet to give Matrix 4 an official release date but coming out in 2021-2022 is likely.
