It was recently announced by Australian officials that the new Mortal Kombat movie would be filming at Adelaide Studios in Glenside, South Australia. The new feature film would be a reboot of the video game film franchise produced by Aquaman’s James Wan and helmed by first-time feature director Simon McQuoid.
A new posting on Backstage has revealed the filmmakers are doing a massive local casting call for Australian martial artists, wrestlers, and fighters. It sounds like they are seeking to fill lead/supporting roles, as they’re quick to point out these aren’t for extra roles.
Casting the Warner Bros. feature film “Mortal Kombat.” Project description: “Major casting call for all Australian based martial arts specialists and anyone with supremely great physical physiques that would fit into the Mortal Kombat world.” Casting dir. notes: “Very important: this is not for extras.”
MALES/FEMALES 25+: We are looking for Australian based martial art specialists, wrestlers, stunties, combat fighters, cage fighters, boxers, body builders, weightlifters, strongmen (and ladies), as well as anyone with supremely great physical physiques that would fit into the Mortal Kombat world, looking for nothing less than the best people in their particular field.
This would give the impression that they seriously want people in these roles that can do in-camera action/fight sequences, which should be music to fans of the video game and action film junkies like myself.
Local boy Joel Edgerton (Warrior) had been linked by ThatHashtagShow for the part of Kano.
Filming is expected to kick-off this fall.
Warner Bros. recently gave Mortal Kombat the release date of March 5th, 2021.
