Sony Pictures has announced on the official Morbius website that Iron Man and Punisher: War Zone co-writers Art Marcum and Matt Holloway also have screenwriting credits on the script alongside Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless (also have story credit on the film), which means the new screenwriting pair have added substantial rewrites to the Marvel flick.
Keep in mind, this work would have been done before Sony and Marvel had agreed upon the new two-picture deal for Spider-Man. The pair recently worked on rewriting the Masters of The Universe script for Sony Pictures.
It will be truly interesting to see how the film will ultimately tie-into Sony’s Spider-Man movies set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as the trailer clearly establishes that Michael Keaton’s Vulture from Spider-Man: Homecoming and Peter Parker being exposed as a murderer in Spider-Man: Far From Home are connected to this film.
I guess we’ll have to wait and see if Morbius and Venom 2 will help lead into Spider-Man 3 or will develop some sort of crossover event (Maximum Carnage/The Sinister Six).
Tom Hardy’s Venom 2 is currently filming at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in Watford, England with Andy Serkis directing.
Spider-Man 3 is expected to begin shooting this summer with Tom Holland and director Jon Watts returning, villains and new casting for that third film have yet to be officially announced.
Morbius is set for release on July 30th.
One of Marvel’s most compelling and conflicted characters comes to the big screen as Oscar winner Jared Leto transforms into the enigmatic antihero, Michael Morbius. Dangerously ill with a rare blood disorder, and determined to save others suffering his same fate, Dr. Morbius attempts a desperate gamble. What at first appears to be a radical success soon reveals itself to be a remedy potentially worse than the disease.
