‘Morbius’ Screenwriters Developing A ‘Madame Web’ Movie For Sony Pictures

Collider is reporting that Sony Pictures is developing yet another Spider-Man spinoff feature film focused on the mystical character Madame Web.

They’ve hired Morbius screenwriters Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless to pen the film’s script.

Sony Pictures has tapped Morbius scribes Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless to write a Madame Web movie set in the Spider-Man universe, Collider has exclusively learned.

Known as Cassandra Webb, she is usually depicted as an elderly blind woman suffering from a chronic neuromuscular disease that makes it difficult to move and breathe, and as such, she’s connected to a life support system that looks like a spider web. The clairvoyant character has precognitive abilities and once helped Spider-Man find a kidnap victim.

There have been young and elderly versions of the character.

Madame Web could easily take the place of Doctor Strange as a neat team-up partner for Peter Parker and a crossover would make a lot of sense.

Morbius and Venom 2 will be released next year with Spider-Man 3 in development stages as well. The third Spider-Man film will star Tom Holland, however, won’t be connected to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

A Madame Web movie feels like Sony Pictures trying to keep on trucking with weird characters.

They’re also reportedly trying to develop movies featuring characters such as Nightwatch, Silk, and Jackpot.
