There were talks that Dave Bautista could have a role in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, that didn’t pan out. However, Gunn will re-team with another actor from his Guardians of the Galaxy franchise.
According to The Wrap, Michael Rooker has joined the cast of The Suicide Squad. Rooker will play the fan favorite DC villain King Shark (who was supposed to be in the first film, until the character was changed to Killer Croc).
Rooker joins a cast that includes Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, Idris Elba in unknown role (originally signed on to replace Will Smith as Deadshot until those plans changed), David Dastmalchian as Polka Dot Man, John Cena, and Daniela Melchior as Ratcatcher.
Production on the villain team-up is expected to begin this Summer. Despite talks of this being a reboot, reports are that this will be a pseudo-sequel to David Ayer’s Suicide Squad film released back in 2016.
James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad is set to hit theaters on August 6, 2021.
