A classic Disney villain is attracting A-List talent. According to Variety, The Kitchen star Melissa McCarthy is in talks to join Disney’s live-action The Little Mermaid as the villainous Ursula.
The report adds that she is not officially signed on yet and is in early talks with the studio. McCarthy is said to just be one of the many high-profile actors being looked at to round out the cast.
The sea witch terrorized the mermaid in the original animated film that has captured audiences for decades. The Little Mermaid live-action adaptation will join a long line of (mostly) successful remakes Disney has been developing for the past few years.
Marry Poppins Returns director Rob Marshall is set to helm the pic with Lin-Manuel Miranda producing and creating original music for the film. If McCarthy were to join, she would have a chance to sing her famous song from the original film.
