It looks like director Lana Wachowski is adding yet another original cast member from the previous Matrix movies.
French outlet Allocine (via ThePlaylist) has word from Matrix Reloaded/Matrix Revolutions actor Lambert Wilson that is in talks with Warner Bros. to reprise the role of villain The Merovingian, but scheduling could be an issue.
Here is a rough English translation from their original article.
The return of Neo and Trinity is not a big surprise. That of the Merovingian is, however, more surprising. Expected in the thriller The Translators , on January 29, Lambert Wilson told us that his character was in the screenplay for Matrix 4 , co-written by Lana Wachowski , Aleksandar Hemon and David Mitchell (author of the novel which served as the basis for Cloud Atlas ), and whose filming is due to start this year with a view to an American release on May 21, 2021. Contacted by Warner and the director, he claims to be in negotiations but only worries about the timetable linked to his commitments at the theater could be a problem.
Other returners previously confirmed consist of Keanu Reeves (Neo), Carrie-Anne Moss (Trinity), and Jada Pinkett Smith (Niobe).
Newcomers Jessica Henwick (Godzilla vs Kong, Iron Fist, Game of Thrones, Star Wars: The Force Awakens), Neil Patrick Harris (Starship Troopers, Gone Girl), Toby Onwumere, Jonathan Groff (Mindhunter), and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Aquaman, Watchmen).
Filming is said to begin next month in Chicago.
Matrix 4 is set for release on May 21st, 2021.
Neo (Keanu Reeves) believes that Morpheus (Laurence Fishburne), an elusive figure considered to be the most dangerous man alive, can answer his question — What is the Matrix? Neo is contacted by Trinity (Carrie-Anne Moss), a beautiful stranger who leads him into an underworld where he meets Morpheus. They fight a brutal battle for their lives against a cadre of viciously intelligent secret agents. It is a truth that could cost Neo something more precious than his life.
