Marvel’s Solo ‘Black Widow’ Movie Expected To Shoot Scenes In Hungary

HN Entertainment has learned that Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow film is indeed looking to shoot scenes in mainland Europe with Budapest, Hungary highlighted as one of the locations the action film is expected to use for secondary filming spots later in the production (other European cities could also be involved such as Prague and Berlin, but nothing is pointing towards those spots just yet).

As previously revealed by Marvel’s Kevin Feige, Spider-Man: Far From Home is the final chapter in Phase 3 making Black Widow the first film to kick-off Phase 4.

Those familiar with the original Avengers, during the Battle of New York sequence there is banter between Natasha and Hawkeye teasing a previous fight that took place in Budapest that the two were involved in. While not a smoking gun, the filming location would suggest that the movie may indeed be what many have suspected for months, a prequel.

Hungary has been a hotbed of film production activity recently with Blade Runner 2049, Terminator: Dark Fate, and Denis Villeneuve’s Dune reboot. However, it sounds like Black Widow’s shoot in the country might be more focused on exterior and existing interior spots not unlike what happened with Red Sparrow, which had Hungary double as Russia for most of the film. There is a good chance that Hungary is standing in for Russian sequences.

Cate Shortland will be directing from a script penned by Jac Schaeffer with a cast that includes Scarlett Johansson, Rachel Weisz, David Harbour, Florence Pugh, and O-T Fagbenle.

We previously confirmed that the Marvel Studios film codenamed Blue Bayou would be filming primarily at Pinewood Studios UK in England.

Marvel Studios has yet to formally announce Black Widow or give it an official release date, the current assumption is that it’ll take the May 1st, 2020 spot reserved by Disney for a Marvel film.
