Deadline is reporting that British actress Gugu Mbatha-Raw has joined the slowly growing cast of Marvel Studios’ Loki series which will begin airing next year on the streaming service Disney+.
Coming off Apple’s The Morning Show, Gugu Mbatha-Raw is heading to another streaming drama. The British actress has been cast in Loki, the Disney+ series starring Tom Hiddleston as the trickster demi-god and brother to Thor, I have learned.
Gugu’s credits include Black Mirror, The Cloverfield Paradox, Motherless Brooklyn, Beauty & The Beast, Doctor Who, A Wrinkle In Time, Jupiter Ascending and voiced Seladon on The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance.
She joins a cast that includes Tom Hiddleston returning to the titular role with Owen Wilson and Sophia Di Martino (rumored to be playing Lady Loki) in supporting roles.
Loki footage was briefly shown in Marvel’s Disney+ ad during the Super Bowl that revealed the God of Mischief was captured by the TVA aka Time Variance Agency, an organization that polices time-travelling and the Multiverse.
It’s possible that TVA could plant seeds for Marvel villain Kang The Conqueror as they have a connection.
The series will be using the working title of The Architect (a nod to the Elder of Universe character?) and shooting in Atlanta, Georgia.
Kevin Feige confirmed that Loki will interlink with Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness, which has Sam Raimi (Spider-Man 1-3, Evil Dead) in talks to direct and on track to begin shooting this May at Pinewood Studios UK.
This was connection was recently highlighted when Loki’s head writer Michael Waldron (Rick & Morty) was reportedly hired to pen rewrites on the Doctor Strange 2 script.
Other Disney+ shows officially coming soon include The Falcon & The Winter Soldier, WandaVision, Loki, Hawkeye, Moon Knight, She-Hulk, and Ms Marvel.
More are expected to announced in the future as well.
