According to DiarioDeAvisos, Marvel Studios and the local government of the Spanish Canary Islands are working on a deal that would bring the production of Eternals to the Teide area, where sits a volcano Mount Teide.

Here is a rough translation.

Representatives of the Disney producer have met on Wednesday with counselors from the Cabildo de Tenerife and the Teide National Park to evaluate the details of the filming of the next Marvel production in that place, which will become a prehistoric settlement.

HN Entertainment actually had been working on a similar story before this news broke and was waiting on some confirmations before running.

The Spanish Canary Islands have been used a lot over the years the biggest production likely to be used over there with multiple seasons of HBO’s Game of Thrones.

The prehistoric settlement could explain the Aztec temple being built near Pinewood and we might be seeing the film take place during prehistory, that temple might not exactly be a tomb after all.

We’ve seen the islands double for Mexico in the past and the Aztec angle might suggest we could see the Eternals in ancient Mexico, given that Salma Hayek’s Ajak (Eternals’ leader) was worshiped as a god by the Aztecs.

Ajak fought Warlord Kro’s Deviant forces in Babylon 2500 years ago. He also had a strong presence in Central America, where the Aztecs believed him to be Quetzalcoatl and the Incas worshiped him as Tecumotzin, Lord of Flight.

Filming is said to primarily take place Pinewood Studios UK, which HN previously confirmed.

The Eternals are a race of immortal aliens sent to Earth by the Celestials to save humankind from the Deviants.

Here is the cast/character list so far, but I’m expecting we’ll be learning a lot more names soon.

  • Angelina Jolie as Thena
  • Richard Madden as Ikaris
  • Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo
  • Salma Hayek as Ajak
  • Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos
  • Don Lee as Gilgamesh
  • Lia McHugh as Sprite
  • Lauren Ridloff as Makkari

Marvel recently gave Eternals an official release date of November 6th, 2020.
