The next Marvel Studios movie could begin shooting sooner than most had thought.
A new report from our old pals at OmegaUnderground are suggesting that Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow film could start its production on February 28th. A little earlier than expected, as it had been previously assumed that it would begin sometime in March.
Cate Shortland will be directing from a script penned by Jac Schaeffer (Captain Marvel, Vision and Scarlet Witch) with Scarlett Johansson expected to reprise the titular superhero role.
A synopsis has yet to be made official or logline reported on by trades, as previous listings were dismissed by previous Black Widow writer-director David Hayter, suggesting the plot making the rounds online was from his original version back at Lionsgate and likely didn’t reflect the new incarnation. Hayter’s involvement with the Black Widow movie dates back to the 2004 incarnation at Lionsgate, which gives you a sense of how long this project has been trying to get onto screens.
However, I do think we’ll be seeing Natasha Romanoff’s past as a Russian assassin and her participation in the Widow Progam playing a large role in the solo film, as it feels like a given they’d attempt to cover her past.
Locations on the Marvel film’s production could include Croatia and Miami, Florida.
The crew includes Mission: Impossible – Fallout cinematographer Rob Hardy, Skyfall costume designer Jany Temime, and possibly Little Dummer Girl/Red Sparrow production designer Maria Djurkovic.
As character breakdowns made their way online thanks to ThatHashtagShow there is a strong expectation that casting announcements will be made very soon. I for one will be crossing my fingers they’re able to add characters like Alexei Shostakov (Red Guardian), Ophelia Sarkissian (Madame Hydra/Viper), and Yelena Belova to the lineup.
Black Widow has yet to be given an official release date by Marvel Studios but it’s assumed to land the May 1st, 2020 spot that had been originally eyed for Guardians of The Galaxy 3.
