It looks like Marvel Studios might be gearing up to begin casting for their Asian-led superhero film Shang-Chi.
ThatHashtagShow has a new rumor that suggests Marvel’s Shang-Chi shortlist may include Ludi Lin (Aquaman, Power Rangers) among others that could be revealed in the coming weeks. Donnie is also being mentioned as being wanted for an undisclosed role (The Mandarin?). Yen having previously been featured in Disney’s Mulan and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
According to our source, Ludi Lin (Power Rangers, Aquaman and Black Mirror) is among the actors with whom the studio is interested in meeting to discuss the role. Though Lin’s name is the first to emerge, there is no indication at this point that he is a favorite to land the role. In fact, our source tells us that we should expect to hear more names emerge over the next couple of weeks.
Additionally, our source indicated to us that Marvel Studios hoped to meet with Donnie Yen for an as yet unidentified role, confirming prior reports.
They’re hinting that filming could begin this November, which may lean towards that Shang-Chi might be the Marvel movie set to shoot at Fox Studios Australia in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. Another claim they’ve made is that Marvel is aiming to set Shang-Chi’s release date for February 12th, 2021 due to the Chinese New Year.
It will be directed by Destin Daniel Cretton with a script from Dave Callaham (The Expendables, Wonder Woman 1984).
Marvel has yet to officially announce the project, but there is an expectation that Kevin Feige will reveal some of their slate later this summer.
