Marvel Studios is Looking into Other Genres According to Kevin Feige

While Marvel nowadays is mostly known for its Superheroes, many people forget that Marvel comics have covered a wide number of genres, from Romance, to Western, to Horror. With the MCU as big as it is and many people feeling that Superhero films are getting stale, now might be a good time to start looking into those genres and, according to Kevin Feige, Marvel may start looking in that direction.

In an interview with ComicBook.com during a press event for Ant-Man and the Wasp, Feige talked about his interest in bringing characters like the Western hero Two-Gun Kid and horror icon Ghost Rider to the big screen. He talked about his love for film in general and specifically mentioned the recent film Hereditary. While Feige doesn’t say specifically what genres might appear in future phases, like horror or western, he wants “generally to continuing to play with genres and continue to explore other genres.” He brought up Thor: Ragnarok in relation to this, in how many people viewed it as Marvel going straight comedy and how positively people responded to that film.

Kevin Feige did express specific interest in the Horror genre, because characters like Blade and Man-Thing came up her said:

“I like both of those characters that you named, and I think, again, horror can mean a lot of things. Horror, did you mean a movie like Texas Chainsaw Massacre or Hostel or a Friday the 13th or a Poltergeist? Poltergeist is a little bit more my wheelhouse, that’s such a great movie and it scared the heck out of me but it’s really fun. I don’t know, I certainly would like to play with as many genres as possible.”

Whatever the future holds, it seems that Marvel Studios are at least willing to branch out from their norm.
