There have been rumors of a Secret Invasion/S.W.O.R.D. series for a while now and it looks like there might be something to that rumbling.

Daniel Richtman has posted on his Patreon page (spotted by MCUCosmic) that Marvel Studios is developing a Secret Invasion series that would include S.W.O.R.D. (introduced in WandaVision), Kree, and the Skrulls.

Also, that the series would lead directly into Captain Marvel 2.

Take with a grain of salt until this is officially confirmed by Marvel/Disney.

We already had an assumption that WandaVision and Ms Marvel will have ties to the sequel given Kamala Khan’s connection to Carol Danvers and with S.W.O.R.D. being introduced in WandaVision (confirmed by set photos) with an adult Monica Rambeau (introduced in Captain Marvel) played by actress Teyonah Parris as a supporting character on the series.

In the comics, Secret Invasion involved a Skrull invasion that included reveals that certain Marvel superhero heroes have been Skrulls the entire time. This was sort of hinted to in Spider-Man: Far From Home when it was revealed that Nick Fury and Maria Hill were, in fact, Skrulls (from Captain Marvel) pretending to be the former S.H.I.E.L.D. Agents to keep an eye on Peter Parker.

S.W.O.R.D. is the cosmic counterpart to S.H.I.E.L.D. and there had been speculation that the button scene from Spider-Man: Far From Home with the Skrulls building a facility for Nick Fury could actually be The Peak.

The Skrulls seen in Captain Marvel took a twist on the shapeshifting villains by making them cosmic refugees being hunted down by the Kree, who were the real villains of the movie as Carol Danvers was being manipulated by them.

With this in mind, there is a good chance that the Kree Empire might be the secret invaders in a Marvel Cinematic Universe adaptation given that the Kree’s Mar-Vell was able to pose as a scientist at Project Pegasus.

However, with the Fantastic Four rights now returned to Marvel they have access to a bunch of Skrulls they didn’t have access to in the past including The Super-Skrull. This allows Marvel Studio to give Skrulls the ability to copy Marvel superhero power-sets or combine them into one alien like with the Super-Skrull.

I guess we’ll have to wait and see if this pans-out.

Captain Marvel 2 is without a director or official release date, but WandaVision’s Megan McDonnell was recently hired to pen a script.
