While Marvel Comics villain Anthony Masters aka Taskmaster was rumored as a possible villain during the release of casting breakdowns for Marvel’s solo Black Widow movie. There might be some actual evidence that Taskmaster might actually be featured in the film.
Some set photos surfacing on Instagram (looks like from locals taking shots from their cellphones) from the shoot in Budapest, Hungary are giving us some strong photographic proof that Taskmaster will indeed be appearing in the film. It looks like he has his signature skull mask and hood, and is riding in some sort of military vehicle.
However, what isn’t known which actor is under that mask.
The two likely candidates are David Harbour (Stranger Things, Hellboy) or OT Fagbenle (The Handmaid’s Tale), the latter has been already spotted on set in a different location prior to the move to Hungary. Ultimately, we don’t know how the villain will factor into the film but there is a good chance his intentions aren’t good or for the benefit of Natasha.
Taskmaster is a mercenary that has the ability to match/mimic the fighting moves of opponents with his heightened muscle memory. His costume in the set photo looks to be a little more tech-based than his traditional comic book look, which isn’t terribly shocking given the version of Ghost we saw in Ant-Man and The Wasp deviated from the comics to be slightly more grounded for the costume department.
He’s proficient in using multiple different weapons but we normally see with a sword and shield.
There was also another set photo that circulated recently that may have confirmed the rumor that Midsommar actress Florence Pugh is actually playing the MCU version of Yelena Belova, the second Black Widow.
The rest of the cast includes Rachel Weisz (The Favourite) and Ray Winstone (The Departed), who are expected to be playing Russian baddies in the film.
Black Widow hasn’t been officially announced by Marvel Studios, but there is a strong expectation the film will be released on May 1st, 2020.
