The first big DC Comics release in 2020 will be Cathy Yan’s Birds of Prey starring Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn. We now have some early box office tracking for the film’s opening weekend.

According to BoxOfficePro, the upcoming DC Comics film is looking at a domestic weekend opening of $40-60 million.

In the wake of Joker’s billion-dollar success, Warner Bros. is going to release Birds of Prey and possibly The Suicide Squad as R-rated feature films. There is likely going to be a lot more R-rated DC Comics movies in the future.

Following the release of Birds of Prey will be Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman 1984 on June 5th, 2020.

The next two movies to go into production next year will be The Batman (June 25th, 2021) and Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam (December 22nd, 2021).

Margot Robbie will be returning the Harley Quinn role in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad (August 6th, 2021), which is currently shooting in Atlanta.

It’ll be interesting to see where they go with the Harley Quinn character as Margot Robbie seemingly has an important role in the future of the DC Comics brand at the studio.

Birds of Prey is set for release on February 7th, 2020.

In Warner Bros. Pictures’ “Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn),” Margot Robbie (“I, Tonya”) returns as Harley Quinn, alongside Mary Elizabeth Winstead (“10 Cloverfield Lane,” TV’s “Fargo”) as Huntress; Jurnee Smollett-Bell (HBO’s “True Blood”) as Black Canary; Rosie Perez (“Fearless,” “Pitch Perfect 2”) as Renee Montoya; Chris Messina (“Argo,” TV’s “Sharp Objects”) as Victor Zsasz; and Ewan McGregor (upcoming “Doctor Sleep,” the “Trainspotting” films) as Roman Sionis. Newcomer Ella Jay Basco also stars as Cassandra “Cass” Cain in her feature film debut. Directed by Cathy Yan (“Dead Pig”) from a script by Christina Hodson (“Bumblebee”), the film is based on characters from DC.
