Variety reports that actor Ludi Lin in talks to take the role of Mortal Kombat leading hero Liu Kang. Lin is best known for his roles in Power Rangers, Aquaman, and the recent season of Black Mirror.
Chinese-Canadian actor Ludi Lin is currently in negotiations with New Line Cinema to play the role of Liu Kang in “Mortal Kombat,” its upcoming live-action version of the video game, Variety has learned.
The plot of the new reboot is still unknown, but game centered on the story of Liu Kang, a Shaolin monk with a resemblance to Bruce Lee known for his flying kicks, who tries to save the Earth by fighting for supremacy in a tournament.
The reboot produced by James Wan will be shooting at Adelaide Film Studios in Australia.
Joe Taslim (The Raid, Furious 7) had been previously announced as taking the role of Sub-Zero.
Aussie actor Joel Edgerton had been previously rumored as being in the mix for the Kano role.
It’s been previously revealed by screenwriter Greg Russo that the film will be R-rated as it will include Fatalities, which are gory finishing moves from the video game.
Warner Bros. has given Mortal Kombat a release date of March 5th, 2021.
