Pretty much since its announcement, the Chris McKay Directed Nightwing movie has seemed pretty stagnant, or at the very least we haven’t been hearing much from it. Well that has just recently changed with some news about actor Lewis Tan.
Fans of Marvel may recognize Lewis Tan from his roles as Zhou Cheng the drunken master from Iron Fist and more recently as Rob Liefeld created character Shatterstar in Deadpool 2. Tan has posted on Instagram recently that he was meeting with DC about something Batman-related, citing the fact that his father got his start in Hollywood with the 1989 Tim Burton Batman film. Well thanks to That Hash Tag show, we now know what he was meeting about. Lewis Tan confirmed that he was meeting about playing the title character in DC’s Nightwing film.
While he made clear in his interview that nothing is confirmed yet, he did say that Chris McKay wanted to cast a Martial Artist like him and has followed him on Twitter, so he’s getting some good vibes. He also mentioned that “there were a lot of different talks and Nightwing was one of those that were mentioned.” Based on what he says here, it seems that DC might want Tan for any project, especially due to his Martial Arts and Acting background, and they’re just trying to find where he fits best with them. Nightwing is just one of those options.
But fret not Marvel fans, Lewis Tan did say in the interview:
“I’m not trading in my Marvel roots, because they started me, but DC started my dad, so it would be nice to go over there and play around and find the right thing.”
But now, like Tan, we’ll have to see what comes of this meeting and the future of the Nightwing film.
