Today, Netflix announced they have secured the rights to Legendary Entertainment’s upcoming Sherlock Holmes spinoff film Enola Holmes, which had been previously thought to be a Warner Bros. release.
The Enola Holmes Mysteries is a book series from writer Nancy Springer, it has six books in total and has begun with The Case of the Missing Marquess in 2006. The film is based on the series and its synopsis is as follows:
Based on the beloved Edgar-nominated book series, ENOLA HOLMES tells the story of Sherlock and Mycroft Holmes’ rebellious teen sister Enola, a gifted super-sleuth in her own right who often outsmarts her brilliant siblings. When her mother mysteriously disappears on her 16th birthday, Enola seeks help from her older brothers. But soon realizing they’re less interested in solving the case than in packing her off to finishing school, Enola does the only thing a smart, resourceful and fearless young 1880s woman can do… she runs away to London to find her. Meeting a cast of memorable characters along the way, Enola’s caught in the middle of a conspiracy that could alter the course of political history. ENOLA HOLMES puts a dynamic new female twist on the world’s greatest detective and his brilliant family.
The first book and the fifth one got his nomination to Edgar Award in 200 and 2010, respectively. And following the awards path the screenwriter Jack Thorne (from Harry Potter and the Cursed Child and The Aeronauts) adapt it.
Directing, an Emmy, BAFTA and Golden Globe-winner, Harry Bradbeer also know for the hits Fleabag and Killing Eve. If you think that success stops here, you’re very mistaken.
Starring in the feature starting with Millie Bobby Brown playing Enola herself, the young star from Stranger Things and Godzilla: King of Monsters. Millie will also be returning for Godzilla vs Kong.
The rest of the cast includes Sam Claflin playing Mycroft (The Hunger Games films, Me Before You), Adeel Akhtar (The Big Sick, Les Miserables), Fiona Shaw (Killing Eve, Harry Potter films), Frances de la Tour (Into the Woods, Harry Potter films), Louis Partridge (Medici), Burn Gorman (Pacific Rim), Susan Wokoma (Crazyhead, Year of the Rabbit). With Henry Cavill playing Sherlock (Mission: Impossible – Fallout, Man of Steel, The Witcher), and two-time Oscar nominee Helena Bonham Carter (The Crown, The King’s Speech, The Wings of the Dove, Harry Potter films).
Legendary has a previous relationship with Netflix as they’re working together on the action film Red Notice starring Ryan Reynolds, Gal Gadot, and Dwayne Johnson. Cavill had recently been shooting the second season of the Netflix series The Witcher and Millie was about to shoot Season 4 of Stranger Things.
Executive producers are Joshua Grade from Legendary and Harry Bradbeer. But accompanied by producers Mary Parent (Legendary) Alex Garcia and Ali Mendes and also Millie Booby Brown and Paige Brown.
The movie was finished before most productions had been halted due to the coronavirus outbreak and now we just have to wait for the release date.
