It’s an interesting time for the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the studio is on the cusp of landing a majority of its characters from 20th Century Fox, once the merger is finalized. While it was recently revealed that Marvel Studios might not even be allowed to start developing ideas or planning until the summer, some people who have already worked with the studio have suggested they’d like a crack at certain superheroes and films. Peyton Reed still wants to tackle a Fantastic Four movie while the Russo Brothers want to be able to use Wolverine.
Ant-Man’s Adam McKay is no different. MTV News caught up with Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige at the Golden Globes and asked him about Vice director Adam McKay’s recent revelation that he’d like to direct a Silver Surfer movie.
“I’ve not gotten a call yet, but I’ve seen Adam tonight and at a number of these awards, he is as everyone knows an incredibly smart guy he’s an honest to goodness fan and you know did a lot of behind the scenes work on the first Ant-Man film and have you seen Vice? A little cameo, a little Galatcus cameo in there that we helped him get. So I look forward to speaking to him more.”
He also briefly commented on the status of Guardians of The Galaxy 3
“Guardians will happen.. when, where and how for a later time.”

Interesting enough, McKay also recently revealed on the HappySadConfused podcast he had been approached by Marvel to direct Guardians of the Galaxy 3. Yet, he isn’t the only one in that mix as we’ve heard plenty of names being mentioned including rumored candidates such as Travis Knight (Bumblebee), Dee Rees (Mudbound), Michelle MacLaren (Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones), S.J. Clarkson (Jessica Jones, Doctor Who), Jane Campion (The Piano), and Jay Chandrasekhar (Beer Fest, Super Troopers, Community).
A Silver Surfer movie has been in the works at 20th Century Fox for ages, even to the point that James Gunn had at one time penned a treatment for one of those incarnations before making a big splash with Guardians of The Galaxy.
It remains to be seen what McKay could ultimately end up doing, but after the success of Black Panther with the help of awards contender Ryan Coogler, I suspect we’ll be seeing more awards-caliber filmmakers tackling challenging projects at Marvel Studios.
