Kevin Feige Alludes To ‘Eternals’ Being Risky Due To Their Obscurity & Believes In Director Chloe Zhao’s Vision

Over the weekend, TheHollywoodReporter posted a podcast interview with Marvel Studios head/Marvel CCO Kevin Feige as they talked about various upcoming projects including the Disney+ shows and briefly on his Star Wars movie for Lucasfilm.

Kevin was also talking about their risky projects and mentioned how Eternals is basically an unknown group of characters to the general public.

FEIGE: “Chloe Zhao is on the Canary Islands right now with ten amazing actors shooting The Eternals, a group of characters that nobody has heard of outside a small group of people.”

He also reaffirms Eternals is big/expensive and how much they believe in director Chole Zhao’s vision for the franchise.

FEIGE: “It is a very big movie. It is a very expensive movie. And we are making it because we believe in her [director Chloe Zhao] vision and we believe in what those characters can do and we believe we need to continue to grow and evolve and change and push our genre forward. That’s a risk if I’ve ever heard one.”

Some of that risk might also come from trying something Hollywood has been scared of including in these superhero movies as they’ll include the first openly gay character as revealed to GoodMorningAmerica previously by Feige.

FEIGE: “The Eternals will feature Marvel’s first openly gay character. He’s married and has a family and it’s part of who he is.”

The cast/character lineup looks like this (more actors and characters are expected to be announced in the future).

  • Gemma Chan as Sersi
  • Kit Harington as Black Knight
  • Barry Keoghan as Druig
  • Richard Madden as Ikaris
  • Angelina Jolie as Thena
  • Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo
  • Lauren Ridloff as Makkari
  • Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos
  • Salma Hayek as Ajak
  • Lia McHugh as Sprite
  • Don Lee as Gilgamesh

The Eternals is currently shooting on the Spanish Canary Islands after filming at Pinewood Studios UK in England and is officially set for release on November 6th, 2020.
