A new rumor from MCUCosmic is seemingly supporting previous online chatter that Marvel Studios might be looking to cast John Wick and Matrix actor Keanu Reeves in an unspecified role for their newest superhero franchise The Eternals.
Keanu Reeves is being sought for a role in The Eternals, and negotiations are apparently underway already.
If Keanu indeed joins the production he’d be working alongside Oscar-winner Angelina Jolie, Richard Madden (Game of Thrones, Bodyguard, Rocketman), Kumail Nanjiani (The Big Sick, Men In Black: International), and Dong-seok Ma (Train To Busan).
The role is unknown and the possibilities are endless given the number of Eternal/Deviant characters that could be appearing in the film. Hell, the role could even be one of the Celestial characters behind the creation of The Eternals from early man.
- Druig (villainous cousin to Ikaris)
- Eros aka Starfox (brother to Thanos and son of A’lars)
- Kro (former Deviant villain turned team member)
- Valkin (former leader of the Eternals and uncle of Ikaris)
- Zuras (leader of the Eternals and father of team member Thena)
There is also a connection of sorts to Namor’s undersea kingdom of Atlantis as a fight between The Eternals, Deviants, and Celestials 18,000 years ago led to the sinking of Atlantis. If this is taking place thousands of years ago during pre-history in the MCU there is a chance that they might want to set up the origin of Atlantis in the film.
At one time he was linked as being in the mix for the role of Dr. Stephen Strange in Scott Derrickson’s Doctor Strange before Benedict Cumberbatch nabbed the role. There was also a rumor circling that Keanu almost landed the Yon-Rogg role occupied by Jude Law in Captain Marvel as well.
He publicly laments not landing the Wolverine role in the original 2000 X-Men film after attempting to purse the part, but not landing it. There might be a part of him that still wants a crack at a big comic book project.
Currently, he is coming off some large success with John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum looking to become the biggest earner in the Wick franchise and will shoot Bill and Ted Face The Music from June to August. Chloe Zhao’s The Eternals doesn’t shoot until September at Pinewood Studios UK and there could be some wiggle room in his schedule to take a role in The Eternals. Reeves has already committed to shooting John Wick: Chapter 4 but that likely won’t begin shooting until sometime in 2020.
The Eternals hasn’t even been formally announced by Marvel Studios, but the expectation is that the Marvel movie will be released on November 6th, 2020.
