With the success of Aquaman, and the fan excitement surrounding Shazam! the future of the DCEU is looking bright. However, that may not be the case for Jared Leto’s Joker.
According to a report by Forbes, Warner Bros. is no longer developing both The Joker & Harley Quinn film and Jared Leto’s standalone Joker film. The outlet states as follows.
“The Mad Love-type Joker and Harley Quinn film has also fallen by the wayside, as has the solo Joker project for Jared Leto’s version of the character from Suicide Squad.”
With two Leto led Joker movies reportedly scrapped, and the likelihood he won’t appear in The Suicide Squad due to his tense relationship with director James Gunn. This could mean Leto’s run as the clown prince of crime has come to an end. Leto also expressed frustration with Warner Bros. over the Joaquin Phoenix Joker movie. Leto has since moved to Sony Picture’s Spider-Man spin-off Morbius.
Robbie is not expected to return for James Gunn’s Suicide Squad sequel either, having now formed her own sect of the DC universe. Robbie is currently shooting Birds of Prey: and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn.
As of now, the only films in development officially are Shazam! Joker, Wonder Woman 1984, Birds of Prey: and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn, Supergirl, The Suicide Squad, The Batman, Batgirl, The Trench, Aquaman 2, The New Gods, Green Lantern Corps.
