Warner Bros. should already happy with the critical reception of Joker, but the film continues to make money at the box office hand-over-fist.
It has now surpassed 20th Century Fox’s Deadpool (global total of $783 million) to become the highest-grossing R-rated movie.
Forbes is now reporting that the film has crossed $800 million.
No matter, because the film also had, going into the weekend, a $788.3 million global cume, including $529.617 million overseas. That gave it a 32.8/67.1 domestic/overseas split. That also means that its current global cume is now around $805 million worldwide.
The film earning $900 million to a billion is looking very good.
Birds of Prey releasing on February 7th, 2020 is expected to be given an R-rating as well and there is a shot that James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad coming out on August 6th, 2021 could go that route as well.
I’m hoping they consider making more mature adaptations with medium budgets.
Forever alone in a crowd, failed comedian Arthur Fleck seeks connection as he walks the streets of Gotham City. Arthur wears two masks — the one he paints for his day job as a clown, and the guise he projects in a futile attempt to feel like he’s part of the world around him. Isolated, bullied and disregarded by society, Fleck begins a slow descent into madness as he transforms into the criminal mastermind known as the Joker.
