Deadline reports that Len Wiseman (Underworld, Live Free or Die Hard) has landed the directing gig on Lionsgate’s Ballerina, a John Wick spinoff set within the universe of the three previous installments.
Lionsgate has set Len Wiseman to direct Ballerina, an action spinoff of the lucrative John Wick franchise.
The film was penned by Shay Hatten, who wrote the Netflix action horror film Army of The Dead currently being directed by Zack Snyder (Man of Steel, Watchmen, Dawn of The Dead).
Ballerina focuses on a young female assassin who seeks revenge against the people who killed her family. The picture is on a fast track, with a script by Shay Hatten, whose credits include the Zack Snyder-directed Army of the Dead for Netflix, and John Wick: Chapter 3 — Parabellum.
John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum seemingly revealed that the “ballerina” could be directly connected to John Wick’s underworld family (led by The Director) and be an orphan herself that has taken up a life as an assassin.
An actress has yet to be announced for the lead role.
Len Wiseman recently directed episodes of the DC Universe series Swamp Thing.
87Eleven Action Design will likely continue to handle the action sequences as they have with the previous three John Wick installments.
We expect that John Wick: Chapter 4 will begin filming next spring/summer to hit its official release date of May 21st, 2021.
