It was recently announced by Lionsgate that John Wick: Chapter 4 has been delayed an entire year giving the action flick a new date of May 27th, 2022.
Lionsgate is seemingly moving on to the casting phase of their spinoff tentatively titled Ballerina and directed by Len Wiseman (Underworld, Live Free or Die Hard) from a script penned by Shay Hatten (John Wick: Chapter 3, Army of The Dead).
Daniel Richtman has posted a casting/production grid on his Patreon page (spotted by Full Circle) for the upcoming spinoff which states that Kick-Ass actress Chloe Grace Moretz is wanted for the lead role.
The leading character is named Rooney Brown.
Chloe’s other credits include Suspiria, Let Me In, The Equalizer, Carrie, and Hugo.
Ballerina is set directly within the John Wick universe with the additional information that both Keanu Reeves and Anjelica Huston may end up reprising their roles in the spinoff as well.
The plot mentioned sounds as paint-by-numbers as it gets, then again, the action sells these types of movies.
Just because the studio is interested in Moretz that might not mean she’ll ultimately land the role or even get an offer, so we’ll certainly be cautiously optimistic about her landing the part.
I’m not terribly enthused that Len Wiseman is directing but it’ll be interesting to see another director tackle this world of assassins other than Chad Stahelski.
