After the way John Wick: Chapter 2 ended, everyone could not wait to see how John was going to get himself out of the mess he created. Director Chad Stahelski has successfully launched an original action franchise, that audiences continue to follow, thanks in large part to Keanu Reeves. I was a bit late to the Wick train, only watching the first chapter just days before its sequel opened in 2017, needless to say I was also hooked. So naturally, my expectations were very high for this third chapter.
Sadly, I found this film to be the weakest of the trio, mostly because it falls apart in the third act. It starts off so wonderfully, then goes way off the rails and needlessly drags on. What I liked so much about the first two films was how personal the story felt, and how it related to John’s desire to lead a normal life and remember the love he lost. I just didn’t get that in this film. If you really enjoy this series, there’s no doubt you’ll have fun with Chapter 3. Even with all of my complaints, I’m still very curious to see where they go from here, and how that rumored TV series will factor into the story. For my full thoughts on the film, check out the video below.
In this third installment of the adrenaline-fueled action franchise, super-assassin John Wick (Keanu Reeves) returns with a $14 million price tag on his head and an army of bounty-hunting killers on his trail. After killing a member of the shadowy international assassin’s guild, the High Table, John Wick is excommunicado, but the world’s most ruthless hit men and women await his every turn.
