It looks like Swedish actor Joel Kinnaman indeed might be coming back as Rick Flag in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, according to an Instagram post made by Kinnaman suggesting he’s currently in prep for the film at a gun range.
“Easing into that squad preppppp…”
Joel would be joining a cast that includes Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, David Dastmalchian as Polka-Dot Man, Daniela Melchior as Ratcatcher. Idris Elba and John Cena are also reportedly in the comic book film but their roles have yet to be revealed.
Will Smith and his character Deadshot will be sitting out in the sequel due to scheduling conflicts.
Filming is said to begin sometime in September and Gunn will shoot Marvel’s Guardians of The Galaxy 3 once he finishes up on The Suicide Squad.
The DC Comics lineup at WB looks bright as Joker, Birds of Prey, Wonder Woman 1984, The Batman, Aquaman 2, and Shazam! 2 are on the horizon.
Warner Bros. has previously announced that The Suicide Squad would be released on August 6th, 2021.
