Another tidbit from Bloomberg‘s interview with Marvel’s CCO Kevin Feige reveals that Jeremy Renner was originally going to get a Hawkeye movie but they decided to pivot to a series instead according to Feige and said that Renner was fine with it.
Feige was more nervous about his pitch to Jeremy Renner, who plays The Avengers’ Hawkeye. Marvel had a deal for Renner to star in a movie based on the character, but Feige wanted to turn the project into a Disney+ series. Renner turned out to be fine with the change. “He totally got it and said, ‘Let’s do it,’ ” Feige recalls. (Renner didn’t respond to a request for comment.)
Trades had reported that Oscar-nominee Hailee Steinfeld (True Grit, Bumblebee) was in talks with Marvel/Disney to take the role of Young Avenger member Kate Bishop, who would be Clint Barton’s protege in the series.
Hailee has been a little more coy about her reported talks with Marvel Studios when asked about the report.
Mad Men’s Jonathan Igla is set to write the 8-episode series.
According to producers, the show will explore Clint Barton’s backstory.
The Hawkeye series is currently without any official casting announcements or even a director but is expected to drop in the fall of 2021.
