Sony Pictures is moving forward with a new Ghostbusters film from writer-director Jason Reitman (Up In The Air, Juno) that would be connected to the canon of the first two movies with Ian Reitman and Dan Aykroyd producing.
We have a crew update to share.
HN Entertainment has learned the film’s production team has added art director Tom Reta (The Cabin In The Woods, Rampage, Transformers: The Last Knight, G.I. Joe: Retaliation, Blackhat) and visual effects supervisor Sheena Duggal (Venom, Miss Bala, The Hunger Games, Body of Lies).
Our pals over at DiscussingFilm recently suggested that Jason Reitman’s longtime cinematographer Eric Steelberg (A Quiet Place) might be also working on the film as well.

On the casting front, Finn Wolfhard (IT, Stranger Things, IT: Chapter 2) and Carrie Coon (Avengers: Infinity War, Gone Girl, Fargo) are reportedly playing mother and son in the film according to Variety. The new film centers on a family that returns to a small town.
Sadly, the characters from the recent Paul Feig film aren’t expected to appear as that film took place outside of canon as it was a franchise reboot. While it’s been assumed that original characters could return as the door has been left open, it has yet to be made official by the studio.
Filming is said to begin sometime this June in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
Sony Pictures has officially given Ghostbusters a release date of July 10th, 2020.
