Variety reports that Oscar-winner Jared Leto (Dallas Buyers Club) is in early talks to play a serial killer in crime thriller The Little Things for Warner Bros. and director John Lee Hancock (The Highwaymen) with filming expected to begin sometime in the fall.
He would join previously announced Oscar-winners Denzel Washington and Rami Malek, who will play the main leads.
They also posted the details on the project along with who is playing who.
The story follows a burned-out Kern County, Calif. deputy sheriff named Deke (Washington) who teams with Baxter, a crack LASD detective (Malek), to reel in a wily serial killer. Deke’s nose for the “little things” proves eerily accurate, but his willingness to circumvent the rules embroils Baxter in a soul-shattering dilemma. Meanwhile, Deke must wrestle with a dark secret from his past.
It’ll be interesting if we’re going to get the next Seven or Prisoners here.
Leto has been focusing mostly on studio tentpoles with Suicide Squad, Blade Runner 2049, and Sony’s Morbius (set in their own Spider-Man universe).
A release date for The Little Thing hasn’t been set by the studio.
