Variety reports that actor Jamie Bell is currently in final negotiations with Paramount Pictures to take a supporting role in their action film Without Remorse starring Michael B. Jordan as John Clark, a former Navy SEAL turned CIA operative.
Bell will play Robert Ritter, the deputy director of operations at the CIA who was a major character in the Clancy universe and helped recruit Kelly into the CIA. Ritter has a presence in several Clancy novels including “Clear and Present Danger,” which was also adapted into a movie by Paramount.
The film is set directly in the Jack Ryan universe as Robert Ritter and John Clark were featured characters in the Harrison Ford movie Clear and Present Danger.
Clark, aka John Terrence Kelly, is an ex-Navy-SEAL-turned-operations-officer for the CIA who has appeared in 17 novels starting with 1988’s “The Cardinal of the Kremlin.” Though mainly seen as a secondary character who helps CIA analyst Jack Ryan with the physical elements of missions, Clark finally stepped into the spotlight with “Without Remorse,” which tells his backstory on how he came to work for the CIA.
It remains to be seen if this will directly be connected to the current Amazon Prime Video series starring John Krasinski, made by Paramount’s television division.
Bell and Jordan previously worked together on 20th Century Fox’s Fantastic Four reboot.
Michael B. Jordan is also expected to reprise the role of Clark in their Rainbow Six movie as well. Paramount seemingly expecting to turn the character into their next Ethan Hunt.
Filming is expected to begin later this year.
Paramount Pictures has given Without Remorse a release date of September 18th, 2020.
