James Wan’s ‘Mortal Kombat’ Movie Will Be R-Rated and Include Fatalities According To Screenwriter Greg Russo

We’re very interested to see what happens with the New Line Cinema reboot of the Mortal Kombat movie from producer James Wan.

Screenwriter Greg Russo has previously talked to DiscussingFilm and mentioned that they were planning on bringing in the original seven.

This was supported when ThatHashtagShow said that Joel Edgerton (Warrior) was being eyed for the role of Kano and Joe Taslim (Fast and Furious 6, The Raid) was recently confirmed for the role of Sub-Zero.

Today, Russo has taken to Twitter to reveal that they are indeed planning on making the film an R-rated project, which isn’t terribly surprising but the added that the fatalities would be included. Something that was watered down in original film given its PG-13 rating.

Filming will begin this fall in Adelaide Film Studios in Australia.

Filmmakers are looking to hire local Aussies with real fighting/stunt experience for roles as they posted a big open casting call.

The bigger question will be if they’ll be bringing back that epic theme song?

I wouldn’t blame them if they just played the damn thing on repeat for two hours.

Warner Bros. has given Mortal Kombat an official release date of March 5th, 2021.
