HN Entertainment has learned from a source that the primary filming location for James Gunn’s upcoming Suicide Squad sequel will be Pinewood Atlanta Studios in Fayetteville, Georgia.
The stage location is where James previously shot Guardians of The Galaxy Vol.2 and is expected to shoot Guardians of The Galaxy Vol.3 there as well (unless Marvel/Disney decides to leave Georgia and move production elsewhere) once he’s finished with The Suicide Squad.
The first installment shot at Pinewood Toronto Studios (Shazam! was shot there too) in Toronto, Ontario, Canada and Birds of Prey recently filmed at Warner Bros. Studios Burbank in Burbank, California.
Filming is said to begin this September.
The returning cast is Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, and Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag. The new additions are reportedly Idris Elba, Daniela Melchior as Ratcatcher, David Dastmalchian as Polka-Dot Man, John Cena, and possibly Storm Reid as Elba’s daughter.
Figuring they’re all expendable, a U.S. intelligence officer decides to assemble a team of dangerous, incarcerated supervillains for a top-secret mission.
Margot Robbie isn’t a stranger to shooting movies in Georgia as it was the main filming location for I, Tonya, that earned her an Oscar nomination for Best Actress.
Warner Bros. has given The Suicide Squad a release date of August 6th, 2021.
