Yesterday, it was revealed by Guardians of The Galaxy actor Dave Bautista to Collider that writer/director James Gunn was mulling over the idea of making a spinoff film featuring his character Drax The Destroyer being teamed-up with Pom Klementieff’s Mantis.
BAUTISTA: “I wouldn’t do a series just because Drax as a series would be really rough with the makeup and everything. It would be too tough.”
“What I would like to do, honestly, this is not my idea I’m stealing this idea. James Gunn had the idea to do a Drax/Mantis movie and that’s what I’d be up for because there’s just too much fun there.”
James has also chimed-in on Twitter suggesting the idea might still be in play and could be “amazing”.

Pom recently landed a role in Christopher McQuarrie’s Mission: Impossible sequels, which could help boost her cache with Marvel and give them pause to consider the spinoff.
However, Gunn is a little busy at the moment only recently wrapping principal photography on The Suicide Squad and once he completes his work on that still has Guardians of The Galaxy 3 next.
I think pairing Drax and Mantis in a solo adventure could be interesting, even if I can’t picture what that might look in my head at the moment.
James has teased in the past about a desire to give Drax a spinoff film and bringing in his daughter Moondragon could be one way to go, even if she is rumored for the third Guardians movie.
The Suicide Squad is set to be released on August 6th, 2021 and Guardians 3 is without an official release date.
