After the big announcement that Taika Waititi would be writing/directing Thor 4 aka Thor: Love and Thunder with a cast that includes Chris Hemsworth, Tessa Thompson, and Natalie Portman as the new Thor.
There has been some curiosity about where that Thor film would take place in the MCU, given that Thor is hitching his wagon to the Guardians of The Galaxy.
While replying to a fan question focusing on just that, James Gunn has confirmed on Instagram (spotted by MCUExchange) that Thor: Love and Thunder will take place before his Guardians of The Galaxy 3.
That is kind of odd since at the end of Avengers: Endgame we saw Thor leave with the Guardians suggesting he’d have a direct role in the third movie becoming one of the crew unless we’ll end up seeing the Guardians for a portion of Love and Thunder.
Then again, Guardians of The Galaxy 3 has been seemingly bumped out of Phase 4 because of Gunn’s commitments to The Suicide Squad, which would suggest that he likely wouldn’t be able to shoot the film until late 2020 or sometime in 2021.
Thor: Love and Thunder will be released on November 5th, 2021.
