It looks like we have another returning cast member that will survive the James Gunn era of The Suicide Squad. Aussie actor Jai Courtney seemingly confirms during an interview with BusinessInsider that he’ll be reprising the role of villain Captain Boomerang in the film.
“We’re getting ready to shoot in a few months’ time,” Courtney said while promoting his upcoming movie “Storm Boy” (in theaters April 5). “There’s not much else I can reveal about it but, yeah, you’ll be seeing Boomerang back for sure.”
Courtney would be the first returning cast member seemingly confirmed for the film. Margot Robbie is expected to return to play Harley Quinn but that has yet to be confirmed by Robbie, director James Gunn, or the studio officially.
Will Smith’s busy schedule seemingly led to his recasting as Idris Elba will now be playing Deadshot in the soft-reboot. Along with a bunch of new characters likely to get bumped-off during their mission, something that was sort of lacking in the last installment.
Filming is said to begin this fall in Atlanta, Georgia.
Writer-director James Gunn will then move on to finishing Guardians of The Galaxy 3, once he completes work on The Suicide Squad.
Warner Bros. recently gave The Suicide Squad a release date of August 6th, 2021.
