J.J. Abrams has confirmed via Twitter that Star Wars: Episode IX has wrapped today and shared a set photo of Daisy, John, and Oscar hugging. Oscar looking like he’s about to cry.
This would confirm my August reporting at OmegaUnderground that the sequel would complete principal photography in February.
Omega Underground has learned that filming is expected to be completed by sometime in February.
It feels impossible, but today wrapped photography on Episode IX. There is no adequate way to thank this truly magical crew and cast. I’m forever indebted to you all. pic.twitter.com/138AprtFuZ

The film’s cast consists of Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Mark Hamill, Kelly Marie Tran, Carrie Fisher, Billy Dee Williams, Anthony Daniels, Richard E. Grant, Naomi Ackie, Keri Russell, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Joonas Suotamo, and Billie Lourd.
There is a strong expectation Episode IX will be the final installment in the Skywalker Saga giving some breathing room for the two new trilogies coming from The Last Jedi’s Rian Johnson along with the Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss. Neither Disney nor Lucasfilm have announced what will be their next theatrical film as the studio is currently focusing on their live-action series for Disney+ with Jon Favreau’s The Mandalorian and the Cassian Andor prequel series starring Diego Luna.
Lucasfilm’s Kathleen Kennedy has left the door open for these main saga characters to return in the future, what that looks like remains to be seen.
A release date for Star Wars: Episode IX is set for December 20th, 2019.
