Indonesian martial arts star Iko Uwais is now in talks with Paramount for the role of Hard Master in their G.I. Joe spinoff/reboot Snake Eyes according to a new report from TheHollywoodReporter.
Iko Uwais, the star of the bone-crunching Indonesian action movie The Raid and The Raid 2, is in negotiations to suit up for the G.I. Joe spinoff, Snake Eyes.
Hard Master is one of a handful of skilled martial arts instructors that taught both Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow. The movie will be exploring their origins along with the events leading to their falling out.
Iko is likely best known for his role as the protagonist of Gareth Evans’ Raid movies along with roles in Hollywood films such as Stuber, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and Mile 22. He most recently had a lead role in the Netflix series Wu Assassins.
Adding him will certainly give more credibility to the action sequences, depending on how much he’ll be involved with the film.
If he closes a deal he’ll be joining previously announced cast members Henry Golding who will play the titular Snake Eyes and Andrew Koji who will play his future rival/Cobra operative Storm Shadow.
Interesting enough, a couple of weeks back I mentioned on Twitter that I would be shocked if Iko wasn’t up for a role. I also mentioned Lewis Tan, but he ended up nabbing a big role in New Line Cinema’s Mortal Kombat reboot movie.
