Idris Elba In Talks To Join Wes Ball’s ‘Mouse Guard’

Weeks after landing Andy Serkis and Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Wes Ball’s Mouse Guard has secured another big name to a role.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Idris Elba is in final negotiations to star as legendary champion Celanawe, an Obi-Wan mentor-like figure who was thought to have vanished long ago.

Serkis has signed on to star as Midnight, the Guard’s blacksmith who turn against the group and becomes the antagonist of the story, while Brodie-Sangster has signed on to star as Lieam, one of the order’s newest and youngest members who will have to step up and prove his worth early into his adventurer career.

The film is being described as Game of Thrones with mice. Production is slated to begin in May and will be shot using motion capture, with visual effects by the Oscar-winning studio WETA.

Mouse Guard is centered on mice struggle to live safely and prosper amongst harsh conditions and a host of predators. Thus the Mouse Guard was formed: more than just soldiers, they are guides for common mice looking to journey without confrontation from one village to another. They see to their duty with fearless dedication so that they may not simply exist but truly live.
