Deadline reports that How To Train Your Dragon franchise writer/director Dean DeBlois has lined-up his second live-action project within the last month.

Dean will be directing a new feature film version of Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic pirate tale Treasure Island for Universal Pictures/Mandeville Pictures with a script penned by Evan Spiliotopoulos (Beauty and The Beast, Snake Eyes).

Deadline has learned that Universal Pictures and Mandeville Films are in development on Treasure Island, a new feature take inspired by the 1883 Robert Louis Stevenson novel which two-time Oscar-nominated How to Train Your Dragon filmmaker Dean DeBlois will direct.

Treasure Island tells the story of young Jim Hawkins who is torn between his loyalty to his benefactors and his affection for Pirate Captain Long John Silver as they seek a buried pirate treasure.

He’ll make Paramount’s Micronauts movie first which is set for release on June 4th, 2021.

The release date would suggest that Dean would begin filming Micronaunts next spring/summer.

With Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean 6 seemingly slowly chugging along Universal has an opportunity to get in there before the six installment gets it’s sea legs and figures out their gameplan.
