Universal’s Fast and Furious franchise continues to make major bank for the studio and their first spinoff installment Hobbs and Shaw has proven they can move beyond the original cast and still get asses in seats.
The film has already made an impressive global cume of $687.9 million according to BoxOfficeMojo as the film is expected to cross the $700 million before the weekend and will likely cross the $800 million dollar mark sometime next week.
How far it will go beyond that remains to be seen but $900 million could be in its sights by the end of September.
Universal Pictures is already said to be developing sequels to the spinoff starring Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham along with a female-driven spinoff also in the works.
Hobbs director David Leitch has signed a first-look deal with the studio and is expected to get involved with the franchise as a producer.
They’re currently filming Fast and Furious 9 with director Justin Lin back behind the camera with Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyreese Gibson, Ludacris, Charlize Theron, Helen Mirren, John Cena, and Michael Rooker among the cast.
The box office strength would certain see the studio move beyond the 10th installment and keep making these action films for years to come.
