HN Entertainment has learned about a crew addition on the upcoming Netflix science fiction series Away produced by Matt Reeves (Dawn of The Planet of The Apes, The Batman, Cloverfield) and starring two-time Oscar-winner Hilary Swank (Boys Don’t Cry, Million Dollar Baby).
They’ve added production designer David Sandefur (Repo Men, Nightflyers). He also was the supervising art director on Michael Bay’s The Island and Doug Liman’s Mr. and Mrs. Smith.
Deadline revealed some details of the show last month.
Centers on Emma Green (Swank), an American astronaut who must leave her husband and teenage daughter behind to command an international space crew embarking upon a treacherous mission. It is a series about hope, humanity and how we need one another if we are to achieve impossible things.
We’ve also been able to confirm that filming will start August 26th in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, and wrap around February 5-6th, 2020.
Swank recently worked with Netflix on the sci-fi film I Am Mother, which shot at Adelaide Studios, Glenside, South Australia, Australia (the upcoming stage location for New Line Cinema’s new Mortal Kombat film).
The Last Samurai director Edward Zwick is said to be directing an episode and will also executive produce.
Netflix has yet to announce when they plan on dropping the series but Away will likely be released sometime in 2020.
