It looks like HBO’s Game of Thrones prequel pilot (working title Bloodmoon) will be heading to Italy according to a report from a local source. IlMessaggero reports that production will spend some time filming on the Italian coast at Gaeta’s Grotta del Turco.
HN Entertainment has been able to confirm that the pilot will indeed shoot in Italy and we can add that it is expected to shoot there in mid-July. Filming in Northern Ireland will finish a month of shooting on July 10th.
The new series is said to explore the origins of the White Walkers and will take place thousands of years in the past. However, the pilot seemingly is taking place in more summery locations.
I don’t think we have to worry about the pilot looking very pretty.
We previously revealed that the production team will include production designer Luke Hull (Chernobyl), supervising art director David Allday (Robin Hood, Gladiator), and art director Max Klaentschi (Chernobyl).
S.J. Clarkson is directing the pilot with Jane Goldman writing/showrunning it.
It currently boasts an impressive cast composed of Naomi Watts, Josh Whitehouse, Naomi Ackie, Jamie Campbell Bower, Toby Regbo, Georgie Henley, Alex Sharp, Ivanno Jeremiah, Denise Gough, and Sheila Atim.
HBO may give the pilot a series order and we’ll begin seeing the episodes sometime in 2020-2021, as the full season shoot may continue throughout the rest of 2019 and possibly into 2020.
