DiscussingFilm reports that Guy Ritchie might have secured his follow-up to The Gentlemen and will be reunited with Miramax for a London-set heist feature film titled Vigilance that could have an American actress playing the lead character.
We have learned that Guy Ritchie is in talks to write and direct ‘Vigilance’ for Miramax.
They also provided an early synopsis for the project.
Will follow an American who has fallen on hard times who then starts a job at a London armored car company and works her way into the confidence of a tight-knit heist crew.
However, if he’s indeed handling both writing and directing duties it would suggest he’s already started work on this film a long time ago and likely has an official deal with Miramax already in place.
Being a longtime fan of Guy Ritchie, he tends to write his own scripts months/years in advance since they’re mostly his original projects that are then brought to a studio to be made such was the case with films such as Snatch, Lock Stock, RockNRolla, and Revolver.
If he’s talking with Miramax about the project it likely has a script written already and he’s figuring out budgets with them.
Other than basic details on the project itself they weren’t able to add production information such as locations and dates. Given Ritchie’s homestead primarily location for his feature films tends to be London, and the surrounding area there is a good bet it’ll stick to an England shoot.
The heist element is interesting given that he has talked about finishing a trilogy of RockNRolla movies, a film that starred Gerard Butler, Idris Elba, and a young Tom Hardy. The main trio played by the three actors committed heists in the movie.
I’ll be curious if Ritchie will attempt to insert some of those characters in this given the heist angle.
Ritchie recently turned down the gig on Sherlock Holmes 3, which went instead to his Lock Stock actor Dexter Fletcher (Rocketman, Eddie The Eagle) that recently turned his sights to directing.
This could back-up that he is indeed set to make Vigilance his next feature film unless Disney can convince him to make the Aladdin sequel first.
Guy’s latest film The Gentlement is set to be released on January 24th, 2020.
THE GENTLEMEN follows American expat Mickey Pearson (Matthew McConaughey) who built a highly profitable marijuana empire in London. When word gets out that he’s looking to cash out of the business forever it triggers plots, schemes, bribery and blackmail in an attempt to steal his domain out from under him (featuring an all-star ensemble cast including Charlie Hunnam, Henry Golding, Michelle Dockery, Jeremy Strong, Eddie Marsan, Colin Farrell, and Hugh Grant).
