HN Entertainment has learned that cinematographer Dan Laustsen will reunite with director Guillermo del Toro for his upcoming thriller Nightmare Alley. The pair previously worked together on the Best Picture winner The Shape of Water and Dan’s recent work includes John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum.
The film is based on the 1947 Fox movie that starred Tyrone Power as an ambitious young con-man who hooks up with a female psychiatrist who is even more corrupt than he is. At first, they enjoy success fleecing people with their mentalist act, but then she turns the table on him, out-manipulating the manipulator.
Other members of the film’s crew are said to include production designer Tamara Deverell (The Strain, Star Trek: Discovery) and The Shape of Water costume designer Luis Sequeira (IT, IT: Chapter 2, The Strain).
Variety reported today that Leonardo DiCaprio is in talks with the studio to take a lead role.
We also expect that filming will be taking place in Toronto either at Pinewood Toronto Studios or Cinespace Studios. The location has yet to be confirmed but we hear it’s a strong contender as del Toro has been shooting a bulk of his films in and around Toronto since Pacific Rim.
A release date has yet to be announced but is reportedly eyeing a fall production start.
